The creature towered over Cheri. It filled the doorway of the closet from side to side and top to bottom. Her bristly jet black hair was tied into multiple ponytails. It was unquestionably a girl monster since there was a lavender bow at the edge of each ponytail. Her head was the shape of a watermelon—broader rather than tall, and its eyes glowed a grassy green. There were three eyes on the head, and they aligned in the middle of the face. The monster’s one eyebrow was bushy and black like her hair and extended over all the eyes.
In the center of the face, the nose stood out like a dill pickle--bumpy and long like the dill pickles in the refrigerator. The threadlike mouth hid beneath the nose. The creature appeared to be grimacing at Cheri or maybe that was its smile. Cheri shivered at the grimace and felt extremely uneasy.
The monster clenched the door knob with her hand. Four thumbs and one finger dangled from the other hand. The stubby thumbs resembled the shiny black stapler on Mommy’s desk. The long and pointy finger emerged from the hand like Mommy’s pen. The skin on the monster’s dazzling yellow face sparkled in the dark, and its glossy skin looked like a sheet of yellow construction paper.
The monster wore a gloomy violet gown with lemon yellow daisies all over it. Each daisy was the size of a dinner plate. Cheri wondered if the creature had feet since the dress rested on the shag carpeting of the closet.
